Community Market

Community Action is providing FREE food to anyone who needs it every Thursday from 12:30 - 3:30PM or until supplies last.
Since the start of COVID-19, Community Action of Ventura County has seen a significant increase in the need for our Food Pantry services. We have more than QUADRUPLED the number of families we’re serving on a weekly basis because recent hardships have created immense food insecurity for our communities.
Before COVID-19 we were serving an average of 80-100 families per week. However since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been consistently serving almost 400 families per week.
Our community members receive fresh, quality food at NO COST and with the HIGHEST safety standards in mind to protect them.
This has been possible through partnerships with Food Share, Waste Free Ventura County, Oaks and Berry Man Inc., Vons, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Casa de Vida, Inc., City Church Ventura and our long time CAVC volunteers to make sure our food pantry program continues to serve our community.

Meet Roseanne Hernandez , our Community Market Coordinator

Working for Community Action has been such a life changing experience and has helped me grow personally and professionally. It helped me understand what path I wanted to take in life and how I needed to continue my education to help those in need. I enjoy working with all my colleagues here at Community Action who have grown to be more like family. Being coordinator for the community market has helped me understand the need in the community and I have continued to make sure that we have enough to feed everyone that comes to our market. This program has helped families and children feel a sense of security knowing that every Thursday we will be here for food assistance and knowing you have food lessens the burden and uncertainty of hoping they'll be able to put dinner on the table that week.
Whatever the need is, I try to accommodate and always remain fully stocked for anyone in need who needs food assistance. If there is any request by our clients I am ready to assist, address and make sure their experience here is pleasant and that they are content and stocked with groceries.
Community Market has helped thousands over the years and has built a stronger community by assuring that people have a place to go to get groceries to feed their families. Community Market of CAVC is always readily to assist those in need. I could not do all this work without my wonderful CAVC colleagues and support team. Thank You!

Roseanne has been with CAVC as our Community Market Coordinator since November 2017. She has an AA from Oxnard College and two more degrees in Social and Behavioral Sciences and Sociology. She recently applied to nine universities to complete her BA and got accepted by ALL OF THEM! She has chosen to attend UC Santa Barbara in the Fall.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)

Due to COVID-19, Governor Newsom declared a stay in place order. Through this declaration there are certain protections that prevent utilities from disconnecting and prevent evictions. Click on this link to read more.
HEAP is a service that Community Action provides if you are in need of assistance with your gas or electric bill. This is a federally funded program. Although we are not currently open to the public, we are here to help process your application.

Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Program

Our Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Program, also known as Weatherization Assistance, is currently ON HOLD.  We are in the process of creating a better way to operate and to ensure health for those who are receiving and performing these services.

Transition Center

Along with our Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Program, the Transition Center program is also on hold while we streamline better practices and figure out the safest and most effective way to reopen to the public.

Census 2020

Community Action is part of Ventura County Community Foundation’s Complete Count Committee for the 2020 Census.
Our goal is to protect federal funding and Congressional representation in Ventura County by encouraging all to participate in the 2020 Census. We have focused our outreach efforts in encouraging hard to count populations made up of low income and homeless communities members in Ventura County. I count. You count. We all count. Complete the Census TODAY
