As one of the newest members of the Mupu family, my first impression of this peaceful community school was one of beauty and excitement that can only be found within a small school environment! In the few weeks of being on campus I’ve come across the friendliest staff members and families and I look so forward to meeting our new and returning scholars and having the opportunity to watch them learn and grow over the next school year.
The Mupu School has a long tradition of academic excellence that began in 1879 and I am thrilled to take us into the 2022-23 school year. As your new superintendent/principal I look forward to walking our classrooms and seeing all the amazing things that our teachers and scholars are doing and to share these experiences with you. I also plan to maintain those special traditions that have been long held here at Mupu and to help support the growth and changes that you will see happening at our school with the addition of new portables, and other construction projects that are in the works that will take our school even more so into the 21st century.
As part of the traditions at Mupu, we will continue gathering every morning to think about the type of people we want to be. We will do this through the lens of our H.E.A.R.T. guidelines:
H- Have a positive attitude E- Expect success A- Accept responsibility R- Respect myself and others T- Think before acting
This daily ritual is a great beginning and helps set a positive tone for the day. It is also one of the special times that our graduates fondly remember and miss about Mupu.
Mupu is also known for its positive outdoor learning experiences. Every year, our upper-grade scholars participate in multi-day, overnight field trips at the Catalina Island Marine Institute, AstroCamp, and Aquarium of the Pacific. We also visit local museums, zoos, colleges, and enjoy performing arts at Pepperdine University. We are thankful to have an active and supportive parent group that helps fund these excursions.
As I become more immersed in my new school environment I can see why Mupu is a special place where academic excellence occurs in a unique and nurturing setting.
